Cooking it

Not one step here is timed, so there is no clock to keep — only the order things happen in.

Tap a step when it is done; the next one lights up.

The clock

This one never puts a number on anything — not one of its 3 steps is timed, so how long it takes is honestly unknown. The recipe itself says 5 min altogether, but it does not say where that time goes.

Stir @chocolate syrup{2%Tbs}(30 mL) and @cold whole milk{1/2%cup}(120 mL) together in a tall glass. Syrup first is not superstition — poured on top it sinks in a slug and never comes back up.

Pour @cold seltzer{1%cup}(240 mL) into @&(~1)milk and syrup{} hard, off the back of a #long spoon{} held just above the surface, until a white head climbs to the rim. The head is the drink; a gentle pour gives you chocolate milk with bubbles in it.

Stir @&(~1)egg cream{} at the bottom inch only, twice, leaving the head alone. It contains neither egg nor cream and never has — the name is older than the argument about it, and it is drunk straight away, standing up.
