3 of the 5 steps never say how long they take, so both numbers are floors. The recipe itself says 1 hr 15 min.

Drawn to scale, so a long wait really does take up the room it takes. The shortest stretches keep a sliver so they stay visible; their times are printed beside them.

Cream @vegetable shortening{1%cup}(190 g) with @granulated sugar{3/4%cup}(150 g) until light. Shortening, not butter — that is the difference between this and the white nut snowball, and it is why a polvorón goes to powder on the tongue.

Beat @egg yolk{1}(18 g) and @vanilla extract{1%tsp}(5 mL) into @&(~1)creamed shortening{}.

Work @all-purpose flour{2 1/2%cup}(300 g), @ground cinnamon{1%tsp}(2 g), @baking powder{1/2%tsp}(2 g) and @table salt{1/4%tsp}(1.5 g) into @&(~1)creamed mixture{} to a soft, sandy dough.

Knead @pink gel food colouring{6%drops} through @&(~1)dough{} until the colour is even, then ~chill{30%min}. Pink is the item — the case holds the tinted disc and the white nut cookie as two separate things on two separate trays.

Roll @&(~1)tinted dough{} 1/3 inch thick, cut 24 discs of 2 1/2 inches, press one face into @granulated sugar{1/4%cup}(50 g), and bake at 325°F ~bake{15%min} until set but barely coloured underneath.
